Yes, it’s another special edition VW Polo GT

Matt Edition of the VW Polo GT will arrive in time for the festive season

11 years after it was launched, 2021 will (in all probability) mark the end of the road for the Volkswagen Polo. But with market interest remaining strong the Polo isn’t going to bid a silent farewell. While gearing up for the launch of the Volkswagen Taigun mid-size SUV, VW will also be working on a couple of special editions of this PQ25-generation Polo and Vento including the Matt Edition you see here.

While the display car had a matt wrap, the cars that will hit the showrooms towards the festive season will have a proper matt paint finish. And just to clear the confusion because we’ve had many of you ask us on social media — matt is British English, matte is American English — and in India we tend to use more of the former.

Matt Edition Polo is powered by the 1-litre turbo-petrol engine

In any event, the gun-metal grey matt finish does look pretty good under the sun. The VW Polo in any case, and even after a decade, is still a handsome car and lends itself well to the small little things VW keeps applying to it from time to time. On the inside nothing has changed though VW are contemplating some complementing or contrasting trim elements.

The Matt Edition will be exclusive to the GT variant that gets the 1.0-litre TSI engine with the 6-speed automatic gearbox. With the current Polo GT TSI priced at Rs 9.92 lakh expect this special edition to cross the Rs 10 lakh mark.

One of the most fun-to-drive hatchbacks around

While we are on the subject to pricing, in other news this month, VW also launched the Turbo edition of the Polo with the manual gearbox priced at Rs 6.99 lakh making it the most affordable turbo-petrol car and, as we’ve said repeatedly, the most fun-to-drive car in this segment. The VW Polo GT TSI goes up against the likes of the Tata Altroz i-Turbo, Hyundai Grand i10 Nios Turbo and 2021 Maruti Suzuki Swift among others
