Xiaomi, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer, has unveiled its first electric car series in China. It is called the SU7 series and comes with three trim levels: SU7, SU7 Pro, and SU7 Max.

The EV measures 4997mm x 1963mm x 1455mm and has a wheelbase of 3000mm. The regular trim has a kerb weight of 1980kg, while the Pro and Max trims weigh 2205kg.

The Xiaomi SU7 EV is available with both RWD and AWD drivetrains. The RWD model has a single electric motor mounted on the rear axle and produces 295bhp. The AWD version, on the other hand, has a front-axle motor producing 295bhp and a rear-axle motor producing 368bhp, for a total of 663bhp. The regular trim has a top speed of 210kmph, while the Pro and Max trims have a top speed of 265kmph.

The batteries for the cars will be supplied by Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited (CATL) and another company owned by BYD. Additionally, two other companies will make the electric motors.

The Xiaomi SU7 will use LFP and NMC batteries

While little is known about the technology that will be available, reports suggest that the EV series will use Xiaomi's new operating system - the HyperOS. Xiaomi recently unveiled HyperOS as a replacement for its existing MIUI operating system. However, there will be differences in the UI; hence the OS used in the car will be different than what Xiaomi will be using in their smartphones.

Xiaomi has stated that mass production of the SU7 will begin in December 2023, with deliveries in China beginning in February 2024.
