TVS Motor Company has launched the TVS Racing Electric One Make Championship (e-OMC), India's first electric two-wheeler racing championship. This announcement reflects TVS’ commitment to the future of electric vehicle (EV) racing and marks a significant milestone in competitive motorcycle racing in India.
The e-OMC will make its debut at the fourth round of the Indian National Motorcycle Road Racing Championship (INMRC) on September 29, 2023. This championship will feature eight riders competing on specially developed TVS Apache RTE (Racing Throttle Electric) race motorcycles.
The TVS Apache RTE race motorcycles have a number of advanced features, including the highest power-to-weight ratio in their class, which is achieved through a liquid-cooled motor and motor controller. This electric Apache will have a high-power cell battery pack with advanced chemistry and a carbon fibre battery case that also serves as a stressed member of the chassis, contributing to structural integrity while keeping the motorcycle's weight under control. There is also a race-specific advanced battery management system with race-specific algorithms for several advanced configuration controls. A single reduction motor spindle is linked to the rear wheel via a chain drive. Bespoke Ohlins front and rear suspension is also included, as is a Brembo brake system that includes a 320mm front disc, callipers, and a master cylinder. To reduce weight and improve performance, the front and rear wheels are made of carbonfibre, and are shod in Pirelli Super Corsa tyres. The motorcycles also have a carbon fibre fairing with an industry-leading low coefficient of drag. The TVS Apache RTE features TVS Racing Factory colours in their sporty livery, as well as sustainability-inspired graphics with neon and blue touches.
With the introduction of the TVS e-OMC, TVS becomes the first Indian manufacturer to enter the world of electric motorcycle racing. TVS has not announced any plans for a road-going electric motorcycle, but we can only assume that the team will use all of the e-OMC learnings to create a solid road-going platform.
