The Global NCAP conducted a series of crash tests towards the end of last year under the #SaferCarsForIndia campaign. A slew of popular cars like the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Hyundai Santro, Maruti Suzuki WagonR and Datsun RediGo were tested. Most of them fared poorly in the tests with only the Ertiga achieving a decent 3-star result. In another round of the #SaferCarsForIndia campaign, the Tata Altroz has emerged to be one of the safest Indian cars with an excellent score of five stars. This is the second Tata car after the Nexon to achieve 5 stars at the Global NCAP.
The car scored a solid five stars for adult safety protection and three stars for child occupant protection. Its structure and its footwell area were rated as stable while head and neck protection for adult occupants was good. Chest protection for both adults was adequate. Child occupant protection showed good protection for the 18 month old dummy with the CRS installed rearward facing and using the standard ISOFIX anchorages. The three year old CRS was installed forward facing, the backrest of the seat unlatched during the crash due to the load of the top tether which was a reason for a score reduction.

The Tata Altroz is built on the new ALFA architecture (Agile, Light, Flexible, Advance) that makes for a high tensile energy absorbing material providing a rigid body structure. Moreover, the Altroz also gets safety features like dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and corner stability control and ISOFIX child seat tether anchorages among others as standard, helping it achieve a great score.
