Renault has showcased the production version of the K-ZE (Kwid EV) at the ongoing 2019 Shanghai Motor Show. The car however is only for the Chinese market and the French carmaker has ambitious plans of selling 550,000 units of the K-ZE annually. The Renault City K-ZE concept was first showcased at the Paris Motor Show six months ago and is the sixth electric vehicle in Renault’s EV line-up.
The K-ZE sports the dimensions of the Kwid albeit with a changed front end which now looks much more aggressive and sharp. The sleek LED DRLs are placed above the headlights, something which has become quite common these days.
The Kwid EV sports multiple charging modes and is compatible to both 220V domestic plugs and public infrastructures. Normal charging time is four hours while fast charging takes only 50 minutes to get from 0 to 80%. It’s powered by a 33KW motor capable of delivering 120Nm of torque.

The car also features an 8inch touchscreen which supports navigation and shows real time monitoring for EV features. There’s also 4G Wifi, online-browsing and voice recognition. The French carmaker has thought about growing air pollution and has installed an air quality control system. The PM 2.5 sensors constantly evaluate the exterior air quality and provide clean air in the cabin by filtering out the harmful particles.
Renault’s primary focus is China for fully electric cars in the A-Segment and the K-ZE will be a volume driver. Renault India however hasn’t commented on bringing in an EV in India as of yet, but we do hope that sometime in the future we’ll spot a Renault EV testing on our roads.
