Renault has officially unveiled its new Kardian SUV, which will be the company's smallest SUV. This compact-SUV is primarily aimed at emerging markets outside Europe, with South America serving as the initial launch destination.

The Kardian SUV has been tailor-made for the South American market. It is then expected to make its debut in Brazil before expanding to other regions where Renault currently lacks a compact SUV offering. Renault's manufacturing plans include starting in Brazil and then moving to Morocco.

The Kardian is powered by an all-new 1-litre turbo-petrol engine with 123bhp and 220Nm of torque. This engine is mated to a six-speed DCT automatic transmission with paddle shifters. In comparison, Renault's compact SUV in India, the Kiger, is powered by a 1-litre turbo-petrol engine with 99bhp and 160Nm of torque, mated to a CVT automatic transmission.

The Kardian is 4120mm long and is built on the updated CMF-B modular platform. This platform is intended to support up to eight different models, with a primary focus on emerging markets.

The Kardian's exterior design features split headlamps, robust front and rear bumpers, and a distinctive Renault double-layer grille. The SUV's rugged appearance is accentuated by faux aluminium accents. The vehicle has a coupe-like body, increased ground clearance, and extensive cladding on the wheel arches and running boards.

The dashboard of the Kardian is similar to that of other Renault SUVs. It comes standard with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a drive mode selector, and a four-spoke steering wheel. The interior features faux brushed aluminium and wood inserts with a mix of piano black materials that vary depending on trim level. Higher-end models have 17-inch alloy wheels, roof rails, a shark-fin antenna, and more chrome accents.

While there is no word on when it will be officially launched in India, if it does, it will compete with the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, and will be priced very competitively considering Renault’s pricing strategy in India.
