Renault India today officially announced that it will be launching a turbo-petrol variant of the Duster soon in India, which was showcased at the Auto Expo 2020. The BS6-compliant 2020 Renault Duster will be getting a 1.3-litre petrol engine that is identical to what is in the Nissan Kicks. The 1.3-litre turbocharged engine will be on offer with either a six-speed manual or an X-Tronic CVT and will be replacing the 1.5-litre diesel engine.

The detailed figures of the power outputs and torque haven’t been officially revealed but we expect them to be identical to the Nissan Kicks, putting out 154bhp and 254Nm of torque. It is also possible that this powertrain would be on offer on high-end trims like the Nissan has done with the Kicks.

With the new engine option on offer, we can expect the 2020 Renault Duster to get minor cosmetic updates and features like an 8-inch infotainment system, push Start/Stop button and safety features like dual airbags, ABS and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) system.

Presently, the Duster is on sale with a naturally-aspirated 1.5-litre petrol engine that belts out a 104bhp and 142Nm of torque and comes stickered at a starting price of Rs 8.49 lakh. We expect the turbocharged variant to be priced around Rs 11.50 lakh (ex-showroom). It will rival the likes of Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos and though the platform is fairly old, we expect this engine to inject the Duster with a new lease on life!
