Canadian autonomous trucking company NuPort Robotics has entered India, setting up its base of operations at Pune in collaboration with the World Trade Centre Pune (WTC Pune). The company aims to make roads safer in India by implementing level 2 autonomous technology in the trucking sector. The World Trade Centre Pune will also help the company grow globally with their network of connections.
The primary way that NuPort Robotics improves trucking systems is by deploying Level 2 autonomy, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), data analysis and driver suggestions. These will be implemented into commercial trucking operations such as regular long distance trucking, deliveries and other services so that the job is safer, more comfortable and more efficient. NuPort Robotics will partner with major truck manufacturers in the country, especially focusing on electric trucks and vans. In that space at present are Tata, Mahindra, Daimler, Eicher, Kinetic, IPLT and E-Trio, among others.
Raghavender Sahdev, co-founder of NuPort Robotics said, “Our expansion of operations into India is with a goal to improve road safety for heavy duty commercial vehicles. We plan to work with major manufacturers to deploy our technology at scale in the country. Our partnership with the World Trade Center Pune enables us to not only accelerate our commercial roadmap, but also assist with operations and strategic business development in India.”
Niraj Khinvasara, Chief Innovation Officer of World Trade Center Pune said, “India is moving towards production and development of electric vehicles and NuPort’s technology has the potential to complement electric vehicles with Artificial Intelligence making them safer to operate and having a direct impact on the automotive industry and broader society. World Trade Center Pune is excited and is looking forward to our partnership with NuPort and supporting its operations and business development activities both from an Indian and global expansion perspective.”
This is a unique development that hopes to uplift the conditions of truck drivers in India, and around the world, as well as raise the safety levels of truckers on the road and have them pose less of a danger to other motorists.
