Nissan India has received an overwhelming response for the Magnite that marks the brand’s entry into the hotly contested compact SUV segment. With over 32,800 bookings and close to two lakh enquiries, Nissan’s make-or-break product in India is already off to a flying start.

To meet the overwhelming demand, a third shift has commenced at the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s plant in Chennai with the help of 1000 additional workforce. Unlike what we’ve seen in the past few weeks where carmakers are announcing price increase for most of their models, Nissan will continue with the aggressive introductory prices for all of the Magnite’s variants except the base XE variant.

Another feather in the Magnite’s hat is the 4-star rating that it received at the ASEAN NCAP crash tests. This was the made-in-India model that also gets exported to South Africa and Indonesia. So prospective buyers can stay assured that the Magnite’s 4-star safety rating holds true for India-spec variants as well.

Coming to Datsun India, the low-cost subsidiary of Nissan, there seem to be no new launches on the horizon neither are there any facelifts in the pipeline. Datsun cars haven’t particularly been drawing volumes and the pandemic has further impacted the sales.

The Nissan Magnite locks horns against rivals like Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet and Tata Nexon among others in the compact SUV segment.
