The first example of the re-imagined icon, the new Safari, has just rolled off the line at Tata's production facility in Pimpri near Pune, Maharastra. Besides, the brand has said the bookings for the new Safari are set to open soon. And while the Safari makes its way to the showrooms, Tata Motors has another surprise for prospective buyer in the form of the Tata Safari Imaginator suite, which uses Augmented Reality (AR), so interested buyers can explore the entire vehicle virtually at a time and place of their choosing.

The virtual tour means you get a first-person view of all that's 'new' on the new Safari

The new Tata Safari is based on the Harrier, created under Tata Motors’ Impact 2.0 design language, taking a cue from the brand’s OMEGARC architecture derived from Land Rover's D8 platform. With regards to the new Safari, though, this adaptive architecture allows for additional drivetrain enhancements including all-wheel drive and even the possibility of electrification in the future.

Further, being that the Safari will seat seven occupants, as opposed to the Harrier’s five, it will naturally possess larger dimensions. Additionally, the original Safari’s characteristic stepped roof, held between the roof rails, has been reimagined in its new avatar as well.

Tata's trailblazing SUV is back!

Unveiling the first official look of the new Tata Safari, Guenter Butschek, CEO and MD, Tata Motors said, “The Safari is our flagship offering to connect the aspirations of the discerning and evolved Indian customer. It had introduced India to the SUV lifestyle and in its new avatar, will carry forward this rich idea to build further its legacy. The new Tata Safari is ideal for families and groups with a multifaceted lifestyle, who prefer to drive together for work or leisure, as it offers an unmatchable combo of an exceptionally strong lineage, robust build quality, premium finishes and the 4Ps of Power, Performance, Presence and Prestige to ‘Reclaim Your Life’. We look forward to making the Safari rule the Indian roads once again.”

As mentioned, bookings for the new Safari is set to open soon, with a launch probably in the first quarter of 2021. Once on sale, the Safari will go head-to-head against the Jeep Compass, Mahindra XUV500 and Hyundai Tucson.
