Pictures and information about the new Mercedes-Benz have been released ahead of its unveiling at the 2018 Paris Motor Show. The new Mercedes-Benz GLE has a new 48-volt active suspension system that is a first in the Mercedes-Benz family. Mercedes-Benz says that a plug-in hybrid will be added to the portfolio at a later stage. Engine options in international markets will include an inline six-cylinder petrol engine and a 48V motor and a frugal 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel. All engines will have a nine-speed auto box for company. The GLE 450 4Matic will produce 364bhp, with another 22bhp available for short bursts via EQ Boost, which uses the 48V system.

The GLE uses Mercedes-Benz’s MHA (Modular High Architecture) platform that is closely related to the MRA platform that the automaker uses for sedans like the C-Class and the E-Class. The MHA allows for higher ground clearance.

The SUV has more space on the inside than its predecessor, with a longer wheelbase at 2,995mm increasing second row leg room by 69mm. The second row of seats are fully-adjustable electronically by means of a switch in the door panel. The GLE is also offered for the first time with the option of a third row.

The interior includes two 12.3-inch digital displays as standard, like the ones seen in the new A-class sold abroad. A larger touchpad in the centre console replaces the rotary dial.

AMG GLE 63 variant and GLE Coupé variants will follow the standard GLE. The new GLE is expected to debut in India sometime next year.
