After months of spy shots, Hyundai has finally launched the new i20. The new i20 gets a new base variant and is priced between Rs 6.99 lakh and Rs 11.01 lakh. The 1.2-litre petrol engine is now the only option as Hyundai has removed the turbo-petrol option. But you can choose between either a five-speed MT or an iVT gearbox.
The design largely stays the same but it gets revised front and rear bumpers and new LED headlamps with DRLs. The Hyundai logo has also been moved upwards from the grille. It comes with 16-inch alloy wheels. The rear gets similar LED lamps as before. The car is available in six monotone and two dual-tone colour options, including the new grey colour.
The new Hyundai i20 gets dual-tone grey and black interiors, ambient lighting, and a Bose seven-speaker system. The infotainment system has an 8-inch touchscreen. The car boasts a leather-wrapped steering wheel with mounted controls. Hyundai has also added seven nature-inspired soundscapes. Additionally, it comes equipped with a Type-C charger.
The latest Hyundai i20 has a range of over 60 connected car features. It also boasts 127 built-in VR commands, 52 voice commands in Hinglish, the ability to receive OTA updates, and a multi-language UI that supports 10 regional languages and two international languages. The car also has multiple drive modes.
The new Hyundai i20 comes with 26 standard safety features, including 6 airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Hill Assist Control (HAC), Vehicle Stability Management (VSM), ABS, and Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD). As options, it offers more than 40 safety features, such as a Burglar alarm, emergency stop signal, rear parking camera, TPMS, headlamp escort function, and automatic headlamps. Further, the car includes a three-point seat belt with seat belt reminders for all seats.
The new Hyundai i20 is powered by a 1.2-litre Kappa petrol engine. It is available with both manual transmission and intelligent variable transmission (iVT). The engine generates a peak output of 82bhp with the manual transmission and 87bhp with the iVT. Both options generate 114.7Nm of torque. The car now features the ISG (idle stop & go) feature, which enhances fuel efficiency by automatically stopping and starting the engine when needed.
The new Hyundai is priced Rs 47,000 lower than the outgoing model which started from Rs 7.46 lakh due to the addition of a new base variant. The current model starts at Rs 6.99 lakh for the base ‘Era MT’ variant and goes up to Rs 11.01 lakh for the top-of-the-line Asta(O) variant with the iVT transmission. Rivals include the Tata Altroz which starts at Rs 6.60 lakh, Maruti Suzuki Baleno which starts at Rs 6.61 lakh and more.
