Japenese carmaker Mitsubishi has ended its six-year-long drought in India by launching the Outlander SUV at a price of Rs 31.95 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai). The car will not be offered in diesel variants and will be available in a single feature loaded petrol trim.
The new Mitsubishi Outlander sports a significantly different design than the previous one which was sold in India. It now features a more muscular grille upfront with generous use of chrome. It also gets LED headlamps and fog lamps along with DRLs.
Powering the massive 2.2tonne SUV is the company’s 2.4-litre unit that produces 164.9bhp at 6000rpm and 222nm of torque at 4100 rpm. The power will be transferred to all four wheels via a six-speed CVT, that can also be manually played around with, using paddle shifters. Furthermore, the 4-wheel-drive system is electronically controlled on demand and has three modes- 4WD Auto, 4WD Eco and 4WD lock. Off-roading enthusiasts certainly have an interesting option to consider.
The car will come in a seven-seat configuration and is set to offer a bucket-load of convenience and safety features. Just to name a few, the Outlander will come with keyless entry, dual zone air conditioner, electronic sunroof and a 710W sound system. On the safety front, the SUV will have ABS, EBD and ASC (Active Stability Control) along with hill-start assist and auto-headlamps.
The Mitsubishi Outlander has been available in the international markets since 2015 and has come to our shores relatively late. But nonetheless, we’re eager to see how it fares against its rivals- the Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kodiaq, and the all-new Honda CRV that will soon arrive in India.
