2021 MG Hector launched at Rs 12.9 lakh

The 2021 MG Hector lineup gets mild cosmetic updates, a seven-seater variant, and a few extra goodies to keep it fresh

News Desk

The MG Hector hasn’t been around for too long – it was first launched in 2019 – and it wasn’t exactly crying for an upgrade with its mile-long feature list. However, with the competition upping the game, MG has decided to throw in a few extras to ensure the Hector isn’t left out of the running. While the 2021 Hector stays mechanically identical to the earlier model, there are a few changes to the exteriors, interiors and to the price. MG has also added the seven-seat Hector Plus to the range and updated both Hector Plus models as well. Here’s what’s new on the 2021 Hector:

Exterior

The most obvious change that we can spot on the outside is the new grille — it is less blingier than before and almost reminds us of the Mercedes-Benz diamond grille. The Hector also gets a fresh set of 18-inch alloy wheels and a darker treatment to the faux diffuser and the element between the taillights at the rear. And, that’s about it. The rest of the car stays identical to the outgoing Hector and it would take a (very) keen eye to differentiate the earlier iteration, from the 2021 model.

For 2021 MG throws in a few cosmetic updates and goodies to the five-seater Hector, and adds a seven-seater Hector Plus variant

Interior

The biggest change to the interior of the 2021 Hector is perhaps the beige and black upholstery which makes the cabin feel a bit airier, as opposed to the all-black interior on the pre-facelift car, it also gets ventilated front seats now. The 2021 Hector also gets a much-needed wireless charger, the lack of which was perhaps the only chink in its technological armor, compared to rivals. The next big update on the inside is the introduction of Hinglish voice commands, a neat addition that should make voice commands easier to use for a lot more people. The i-Smart infotainment system has also been updated with a few extra features including the ability to connect to an external network and the ability to search for artists and songs by voice commands. The 2021 Hector also gets an automatically dimming rear-view mirror. Once again, the changes aren’t ground-breaking but are just enough to spice things up.

Hector Plus

The changes to the five-seater MG Hector will also apply to the six-seat Hector Plus and the company has also announced the seven-seater Hector Plus which gets a bench middle seat, as opposed to the captain seats on the six-seater variant.

Price

The 2021 MG Hector is priced at Rs 12.9 lakh, which is Rs 6000 more expensive than the outgoing model. On an average, the 2021 Hector is around Rs 25,000 more expensive across all variants. The six-seater Hector Plus now starts at Rs 15.99 lakh, while the seven-seater Hector Plus starts at Rs 13.34 lakh. If you were in the market for a Hector, the 2021 update may not seem like much but the Hector is already loaded up with cutting-edge technology and features and this update should only sweeten the deal by offering even more and another variant to pick from too. The Hector competes directly with rivals like the Kia Seltos and the Hyundai Creta, both of which offer similar equipment levels, with a little less real estate in exchange for a better driving experience.
