MG Motor India has launched the Hector Plus at Rs 13.48 lakh, ex-showroom, India. Earlier showcased at the Auto Expo 2020, the MG Hector Plus is the larger, six-seater alternative to the standard Hector. Apart from being marginally longer, the Hector Plus also gets a few cosmetic changes to distinguish it from the standard Hector. The MG Hector Plus shares its BS6-compliant powertrains with the Hector.

What’s new in the MG Hector Plus?

On the outside, the Hector Plus gets a few small changes, including reworked LED DRLs, a different headlight housing, refreshed taillights and a different grille. It also gets revised bumpers at both ends and redesigned skid plates as well. These do add up to make the Hector Plus look different, but only to those with a keen eye. For almost everyone else, the Hector and Hector Plus will appear to be the same car. At 4720mm in length, the Hector Plus is 65mm longer than the standard car, while all other dimensions remain identical.

Jump inside and you’ll notice the three-row 2+2+2 configuration for the seats, with individual captain seats for the middle row. These seats are covered in a new brown leather, different from the standard Hector’s all-black theme. During the virtual launch, MG Motor India reiterated that the third row of the Hector Plus is best suited for children only. In terms of added features, the Hector Plus gets hands-free tailgate operation, which the standard Hector didn’t have along with an updated version of the i-Smart interface.

Those are almost all the changes, however with the Hector already having one of the longest feature lists of any car in the segment, the Hector Plus doesn’t need anything more. It still gets MG’s suite of connected car features, a massive 10.4-inch infotainment display, dual pane panoramic sunroof, power adjustable front seats and 360-degree cameras, among others.

Powertrain options

Under the hood, the MG Hector Plus gets the same engines on offer as the Hector. These include a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol producing 141bhp and 250Nm of torque, with the option of a mild-hybrid, or a 2-litre diesel producing 167bhp and 350Nm of torque, mated to a six-speed manual gearbox.

And lastly, MG is also offering MG Shield and MG Shield+ sales and service packages to its customers. Under MG Shield, MG offers five-year/unlimited kilometres warranty, five-year roadside assistance, and free labour charges for the first five services. MG further offers the prepaid maintenance plans starting at Rs 8,000 for three years with its ‘Classic’ package.

At a starting price of Rs 13.48 lakh, the MG Hector Plus slots between the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and the Toyota Innova Crysta. The Ertiga starts at Rs 7.5 lakh while the Innova Crysta starts at Rs 15.6 lakh, ex-showroom India. The Hector Plus is also much better equipped than the more expensive Innova Crysta.
