MG Motors opens up booking for the Hector Plus

The Hector Plus adds a rows of seats to the Hector, and retains the extensive feature list

MG Motor India announced the Hector Plus at the Auto Expo earlier this year, as a larger, six-seater alternative to the MG Hector. Apart from being marginally longer, the Hector Plus also gets a few cosmetic changes to differentiate it from the standard Hector. The MG Hector Plus shares its BS6-compliant powertrains with the Hector. The Hector Plus can be booked online now, for a token amount of Rs 50,000.

What’s new?

On the outside, the Hector Plus gets a few small changes, including reworked LED DRLs, a different headlight housing, refreshed taillights and a different grille. These do add up to make the Hector Plus look different, but only to those with a keen eye. For almost everyone else, the Hector and Hector Plus will appear to be the same car. At 4720mm in length, the Hector Plus is 65mm longer than the standard car, while all other dimensions remain identical.

The Hector Plus gets many changes but not very significant ones

Jump inside and you’ll notice the three-row 2+2+2 configuration for the seats, with individual captain seats for the middle row. These seats are covered in a new tan leather, different from the standard Hector’s all-black theme. In terms of added features, the Hector Plus gets hands-free tailgate operation, which the standard Hector didn’t have.

Those are almost all the changes, however with the Hector already having one of the longest feature lists of any car in the segment, the Hector Plus doesn’t need anything more. It still gets MG’s suite of connected car features, a massive 10.4-inch infotainment display, a panoramic sunroof, power adjustable front seats and 360-degree cameras, among others.

Powertrains

Under the hood, the MG Hector Plus gets the same engines on offer as the Hector. These include a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol producing 141bhp and 250Nm of torque, with the option of a mild-hybrid, or a 2-litre diesel producing 167bhp and 350Nm of torque, mated to a six-speed manual gearbox.

Prices for the Hector Plus haven’t been revealed yet, although MG is quite clearly aiming at the Toyota Innova Crysta with it. The Hector Plus will also probably undercut the Innova on price to make the deal sweeter.
