Mercedes-Benz has teased the T-Class MPV, with a subtle image that simply highlights its silhouette. The MPV is developed as part of a collaboration between Mercedes, Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi. The Mercedes-Benz T-Class is likely to take the place of the Citan Tourer in the brand’s international lineup, positioning it below the V-Class that we have on sale here in India.

While the teaser image only previews the silhouette of the T-Class’s design, expect it to have sliding doors on both left and right sides, to increase practicality. The T-Class could also double up as a commercial offering internationally if it does indeed replace the Citan lineup. The rumours also suggest that the T-Class will have an all-electric powertrain, alongside conventional ICE ones. And while the T-Class is indeed being developed in partnership with Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi, the T-Class is said to have much more Mercedes-Benz DNA than just the badge.

Speaking about the T-Class, Marcus Breitschwerdt, Head of Mercedes-Benz Vans said “With the new Mercedes-Benz T-Class, we will offer a vehicle which makes it possible for families and those with active pastimes to step into the Mercedes-Benz world. These customers seek attractive and practical compact vehicles – and it is precisely these demands which the new T-Class fulfils".

Adding to this Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer Daimler Group said: "With the T-class’s new layout and design we achieve a fusion of functionality and desirability, and our unique design philosophy of sensual purity we create an attractive family companion being the T-Class inspiring with its design, proportions and its perceived value."

As for now, there is no news whether the T-Class will go on sale in India. Vans have not fared typically well in our country, owing to the lack of lifestyle choices for the same. However, with the V-Class said to be doing rather well, and the V-Class Marco Polo also fortifying the brand’s lineup of lifestyle offerings, the T-Class could make for an interesting addition to its portfolio. For now, the carmaker is all prepping up for its next launch the A-Class limousine and the all-electric EQC in India.
