Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupé lineup gets a minor refresh

The changes include a new suspension, new colour scheme, and Manufaktur Exclusive Edition for Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupé

The Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe has been largely unchanged since its unveil in 2018. It has been positioned as a car for customers who want a sportscar with everyday practicality, similar to the Porsche Panamera. This update includes an extended choice of rims, upholstery, trim and exterior colours as well as a new suspension for the top-spec 63 model. On the lesser 43 and 53 variants, the front-end can now be specced to look pretty much identical to the V8-powered 63 variant.

Now as you can already tell, the changes to the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupé are fairly minimal. On the outside, aside from the most minor of facelifts, there are three new colour options for all models — Spectral Blue Metallic, Spectral Blue Magno (matt finish) and Cashmere White Magno (matt finish). There are also two new styling packs available — the Night Package and Carbon Fibre Package — which add either gloss black or carbonfibre elements to compliment the colour scheme. There are also new 20-inch light-alloy wheels with a twin-spoke design and 21-inch forged wheels with a twin-spoke design. Red-painted brake callipers are now available for the six-cylinder variants upon request.

On the inside, not too much has changed actually. The biggest change is the new twin-spoke steering wheel that we first saw with the 2021 E 63 S. Aside from that there are new colours to choose from, including Sienna Brown, Classic Red, Yacht Blue, Deep White and Neva Grey.

There are also new trim options for instrument panel and door panels, as well as the centre console, now available with anthracite open-pore wood, which is coupled with a silver shadow surround. Other than this, the interior is pretty much the same as before, however Mercedes is now also offering an optional bench setup for the rear seat which moves up seating capacity to a total of five.

While these updated 43 and 53 variants are mechanically unchanged from before, the fact that Mercedes-AMG will unveil specs for the 63 model at a later date gives us hope for some changes there. Speaking of the 63 model, the new AMG Ride Control+ suspension will come with new hardware components. It will get two valves to control the rebound and compression stages independently which, Mercedes says, will improve both comfort and performance.

Not too much has changed on Mercedes' four-door GT 63 since it first launched

Manufaktur Exclusive Edition

An exclusive edition model of the AMG GT 4-Door Coupé will be available for all engine options and will come standard with the V8 Styling Package. The special edition gets an exclusive Rubellite Red paint scheme, more chrome on the exterior, and new AMG forged wheels with a twin-spoke design finished in silver. The panoramic roof on the Manufaktur Exclusive Edition has been upgraded to include blinders made of nappa leather to match the steering wheel. Additionally, there will be new open-pore wood trim in grey ash, illuminated door sill panels in the vehicle colour, and an AMG emblem on the instrument panel.

The 2022 model year AMG GT 4 Door Coupe should make its way to India next year, and we presume that we will continue to get it solely in the top-spec 63 variant like we do currently. However, the fact that the locally assembled GLE 53 features the same engine as the GT 53 could sway Mercedes into bringing in the 53 as an entry-level model for the GT 4 Door Coupe range, but only time will tell. Expect the 63 model to carry a bump in price compared to the Rs 2.57 crore ex-showroom price of the outgoing model.
