The Mahindra XUV700 is just around the corner, and we already know quite a few details about it

The Mahindra XUV700 is possibly one of the most important cars for Mahindra. While not confirmed yet, the XUV700 is likely to take the place of the XUV500 and will be based on an entirely new platform, with new powertrains and a host of technology. Mahindra has even been teasing us with glimpses of the XUV700 and some of the equipment and technology it is set to arrive with. So let’s not waste any further time and straightaway dive into the things we know about the Mahindra XUV700.

A new platform

The upcoming Mahindra XUV700 will be built on the W601 platform

Let’s first talk about the underpinnings of the Mahindra XUV700. It will be built on an all-new W601 platform, transitioning away from the current XUV500’s platform. Like its predecessor, the XUV700 will also be built on a monocoque chassis.

While the engine specifications are under wraps, we do know that Mahindra will offer the XUV700 with both petrol and diesel engines., Paired to those engines, we expect both manual and automatic transmission options, and we also expect an optional all-wheel-drive system.

Retractable door handles

When we spotted the XUV700 test mule a few weeks back, we noticed the lack of door handles! Of course, that hinted to the flush door handles that has now been confirmed by Mahindra. The XUV700’s retractable door handles will sit flush with the car’s body, like we’ve seen on cars like the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Jaguar I-Pace and even Teslas. Aside from the obvious cool factor that these door handles provide, they also slightly reduce the drag coefficient — a big reason why they are seen on so many EVs. This also means that the cheetah claw type handles from the XUV500 will not be seen on the XUV700.

Sunroof or Skyroof?

The teaser of the XUV700 shows what is said to be the largest-in-segment sunroof, or as Mahindra likes to call it, the Skyroof. The panoramic Skyroof in the XUV700 measures 1360mm in length and is 870mm wide. While we most manufacturers don’t reveal the exact size of their sunroofs, the fact that Mahindra is doing so is cause to think that it will indeed be quite a big sunroof. We already expect the XUV700 to have a spacious cabin, and the Skyroof should only add to the sense of space.

Personalized Safety Alerts

The Mahindra XUV700 will feature Personalized Safety Alerts. Essentially, the XUV700 will alert you if you are driving too fast. The interesting thing here is that the XUV700 will tell you to slow down in the voice of your loved ones, instead of the beep systems that are seen on most cars equipped with a high-speed detector. As to how your loved ones will record their voice for the car, time will tell.

Auto Booster Headlamps

The XUV700 gets auto booster headlamps

Among other features the XUV700 is expected to arrive with, it will also get ‘Auto Booster’ headlamps. These will automatically turn on extra lights at speeds above 80kmph to improve illumination when driving through areas which are poorly lit.

There is no doubt that a lot of us are hyped for the launch of the Mahindra XUV700. However, no matter how much kit Mahindra brims the XUV700 with, it is imperative that Mahindra gets the pricing right. However, if the pricing of the new Thar is anything to go by, the upcoming XUV700 should be priced well too. Mahindra is expected to reveal more about the XUV700 soon, stay tuned to our social media handles to be the first to know!
