Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line launched in India, priced at ₹49 lakh

Volkswagen has launched the much awaited Tiguan R-Line in India, with prices starting from ₹49 lakh (ex-showroom). It is available in a single variant and comes via the CBU route, i.e; fully-built unit imported with heavy tax duties. R-Line is a derivative of the ‘R’ which is the sportier division of Volkswagen, and the Tiguan R-Line is powered by a 2-litre TSI engine that pushes out 201bhp and 320Nm, mated to a 7-speed DSG transmission coupled with 4Motion all-wheel drive system.

The Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line features a sporty themed exterior design that stands out from the regular Tiguan. At the front, it is equipped with LED headlights and a LED light bar running across the grille and the rear is highlighted by animated 3D-effect LED tail lamps. It also gets the ‘R’ badging that hints at its performance-oriented character and the car sits on 19-inch alloy wheels.

The interior includes a 10.25-inch virtual cockpit display, a large 15-inch infotainment screen, front sport seats with lumbar support and integrated massage function, 30-colour ambient lighting, three-zone climate control, a head-up display, and a panoramic sunroof. It has a bootspace of 652-litres which is expandable to 1650-litres. On the safety front, it comes equipped with nine airbags, Level-2 ADAS, front and rear parking sensors, front and rear disc brakes, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), hill descent control, and holds a 5-Star EURO NCAP safety rating.

The Tiguan R-Line will go against cars like the Toyota Fortuner (priced from ₹35.37 lakh), MG Gloster (priced from ₹39.57 lakh), BMW X1 (priced from ₹50.8 lakh), Audi Q3 (priced from ₹44.84 lakh), Mercedes-Benz GLA (priced from ₹50.8 lakh) and its upcoming sibling Skoda Kodiaq (prices yet to be announced).
