Land Rover begins deliveries of petrol Discovery Sport and Evoque

2-litre petrol Ingenium engine adds some firepower to these recently updated baby Land Rovers

The Land Rover Range Rover Evoque and the Discovery Sport are the entry points to the Land Rover family, and they do differ a tad bit in their approach. While the Evoque is smaller, and targeted more toward the urban prowl, the Discovery Sport is slightly bigger, and has a more capable off-road package. We were really impressed behind the wheel of both — the new Discovery Sport and the new Evoque. Now there’s a more powerful turbo-petrol under the hood, for those lusting after the Thrill of Driving.

Both the Evoque and the Discovery Sport will share the BS6-compliant 2-litre Ingenium turbo-petrol engine, producing 247bhp and 365Nm of torque. That’s a healthy 70bhp more than the diesel engine, although the oil-burner does have more torque. The new turbocharged-petrol engine also has a 48V mild-hybrid system latched onto it, primarily to aid efficiency.

Other than the new engines, there aren’t any changes to either of the two SUVs. The Discovery Sport recently got updated with some more features and a more butch front-end, resembling the higher-end Discovery. The Evoque too recently underwent an overhaul, with Velar-inspired styling and a more upscale interior. The 2-litre petrol Ingenium engine will be available on the ‘S’ and ‘R-Dynamic SE’ variants of the Discovery Sport and Evoque, with prices starting at Rs 59.99 lakh and Rs 57.99 lakh respectively.
