Hyundai has decided to go all out in terms of offering the performance package for the Veloster in its sporty N trim. As of now Hyundai has only showcased a couple of images of the new car and released a few details, including an all-new eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. It will also be available at the six-speed manual. Hyundai says the wet clutch style transmission using oil will significantly improve cooling and performance as compared to the regular dry clutch transmissions currently on offer.

Additionally, Hyundai has added electronic actuators for the clutches to optimise fuel efficiency and comfort during regular driving conditions. An extra feature for this new eight-speed dual-clutch transmission is the new end Green shift system which, when engaged, increases the torque by up to seven per cent for the over-boost function and also maximises transmission shifts for 20 seconds at a time. Another feature is the power shift system that automatically engages when the car is that 90 per cent throttle applied, in an effort to reduce torque to the wheels during an upshift. Hyundai claims it will give the driver a dynamic sense of acceleration.

For the drivetrain, Hyundai has retained its 2-litre motor producing 250bhp, with up to 275bhp with the performance package, and has increased the torque figures to 377Nm. This power is sent to the front wheels for this performance hatchback. All these added performance features and transmission wizardry can be controlled by the 8-inch infotainment display in the centre, paired with a JBL premium surround system. Hyundai is also offering a set of N light-sport bucket seats, said to be lighter by 2kg, and are the only track-ready seat options, with an illuminated logo at the backrest.

The Veloster N is set to go on sale in South Korea and other markets should follow soon. However the Veloster being a left hand drive only model it will not make it to our shores, But if memory serves us right, Hyundai India did showcase the i30N Fastback at the 2020 Auto Expo this year, so wishful thinking says they might be a slim chance that we might get that in limited numbers.
