June 30, 2019 marks a tragic day for the world of motorsport as it has lost one of its best. Carlin Dunne passed away while aboard the Ducati Streetfighter V4 prototype after crashing out a mere quarter mile away from the finish line. Carlin was on the verge of breaking the record for the motorcycle class and was about three seconds quicker than the previous record at the last checkpoint.
Speaking about the tragic incident, Jason Chinnock, CEO, Ducati North America said, “There are no words to describe our shock and sadness. Carlin was part of our family and one of the most genuine and kind men we have ever known. His spirit for this event and love of motorcycling will be remembered forever as his passing leaves a hole in our hearts.”
Carlin Dunne has won the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb four times. Once on the Lightning electric superbike and then thrice on the Ducati Multistrada
The cause of the crash is still unknown and the matter is being looked into. Dunne was 36 years old and his is the seventh life claimed by the hill climb event.
