Porsche has unveiled the base, rear-wheel drive Macan electric and the Macan 4S electric in international markets and have announced India prices for the same as well. The RWD Macan electric starts at Rs 1.21 crore (ex-showroom) and the Macan 4S electric starts at Rs 1.38 crore (ex-showroom). These variants sit under the electric Macan Turbo that costs Rs 1.68 crore (ex-showroom) and will be the entry point into the electric range for Porsche in India.
The Macan RWD is the most affordable variant in the Macan electric range and has a clear focus on efficiency. It gets a 100kWh battery pack and gets a single motor on the rear axle. Peak outputs stand at 355bhp and 563Nm. In terms of performance, it reaches 100kmph in 5.7 seconds, and top speed is 220kmph. This variant of the Macan is also 110kg lighter than the Macan 4 (not available in India) that was unveiled in January this year. In terms of range, this Macan has a WLTP range of 641km. This version of the Macan also comes with air suspension and adjustable dampers as standard and gets rear-wheel steering as an option.
The Macan 4S is also new to the range and slots between the base Macan and Macan turbo in the Indian context. The name makes it apparent what to expect — the ‘4’ references AWD and the ’S’ implies a bump in power. The 4S gets a new rear motor, and a front motor that is shared with the Macan Turbo. It gets a total system output of 441bhp that can be bumped up to 509bhp for brief periods open overboost. 0-100kmph is obviously quicker, coming up in 4.1 seconds and with a top speed of 240kmph. Range is 606km on the WLTP cycle. Much like the other Macans, it comes with air suspension and adaptive dampers as standard, gets rear-wheel steer as an option and additionally also gets the option to spec Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus)
Drivetrain changes aside, the Macan and Macan 4S continue with the styling that debuted on the electric Macan earlier this year. The interior remains the same as well, with a 12.6-inch digital cluster, and a 10.6-inch infotainment screen and passenger display. The off-road design package is also available as an optional extra that improves the approach angles with a different bumper and increases ground clearance by 10mm in its highest setting.
These new variants significantly reduce the point of entry into the Macan electric range. At this price, the Macan would rival other luxury offerings like the Mercedes-Benz EQE, BMW iX, Audi Q8 e-tron when it comes to price, though it is a significantly smaller package.
