The Mercedes-AMG GT63 S 4Matic+ 4-Door Coupe is as big on power as it is on its name, but that just isn’t enough for the folks at Affalterbach. The 4-Door Coupe is all set to get more power and is expected to arrive by the end of 2021. To be supposedly called the ‘AMG GT 73’ it will get a hybrid system, making a combined output upwards of 800bhp.
Mercedes recently showcased the GT 73 beside the AMG Project One hypercar at the launch of their 2021 Formula One championship contender, the Mercedes-AMG F1 W12.
A 'V8 Bi Turbo E-Performance' badge sits on the front fender and gives us a hint at the model’s hybrid credentials. After all, Mercedes-AMG plan to put hybrid tech in all of their models soon, the GT 73 will compete against the 680bhp Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid, the other hybrid in this class with a similar performance orientation; the GT 73 though will have way more power. It will feature the GT 63 S’s 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 with assistance from electric motors for the rumored 800+ horsepower figure. It’s safe to say that the GT 73 will hence be faster than the GT 63 S which itself does 0-100kmph in a mind-boggling 3.1 seconds. So a 0-100kmph time of under 3 seconds is on the cards. As with other 4-Door models, the GT 73 will have an all-wheel-drive system to aid traction and help its ludicrous acceleration time.
Expected to launch later this year, the GT 73 will certainly demand a premium over the current top variant GT 4-Door - the GT 63 S - which is already priced at an eye-watering Rs 2.42 crore (ex-showroom) India. Hence, it would be futile to expect the GT 73 to boast anything below a Rs 3 crore (ex-showroom) sticker, before options (of course).
