Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 launched, prices start from Rs 1.55 crore

The Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 is the first locally-assembled EV from Mercedes-Benz in India

Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 has been launched at Rs 1.55 crore in India. Moreover, it also becomes the first EV from Mercedes-Benz to be produced outside of Germany at the Chakan plant in Pune. It gets an ARAI-certified range of 857km and Mercedes-Benz claims it to be the world's most aerodynamic production car.

Visually, the Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 looks much like its high-performance sibling the AMG EQS 53. It gets a redesigned front grille with illuminated three-pointed stars, a redesigned bumper and smaller 20-inch alloy wheels with a five-spoke design. Moreover, Mercedes-Benz claims that it is the world's most aerodynamic production car with a drag coefficient of just 0.20. It comes in a total of five colours and two upholstery options.

The EQS 580 just like the AMG EQS 53 gets ‘Hyperscreen’ which is a 56-inch end-to-end display setup by Mercedes-Benz, which encompasses three separate screens. On the driver and passenger side is a 12.3-inch screen while the central infotainment system is 17.7-inch. All of them are connected together by one singular glass panel. Moreover, it also gets features like a head-up display, a Burmester 3D sound system, an MBUX tablet like the S-Class and a massage function for the front seats. In terms of safety, it has 9 airbags, lane change and lane keep assist, emergency stop function. It has also scored a 5-star rating in the Euro NCAP crash test.

The EQS 580 gets a 107.8kWh lithium-ion battery pack paired with two electric motors on each axle, together producing an output of 516bhp and 855Nm torque. It can go from 0-100 in just 4.3 seconds and has a limited top speed of 210kmph. It gets an ARAI-claimed range of 857km (677km WLTP range) and Mercedes-Benz claims it can go from 10-80 per cent in just 31 minutes with a DC fast charger supplying 400V.

It also gets air suspension with an adaptive damping setup, which can increase or decrease the ride height of the car by 15mm. This also works by geo-tagging any location, giving the car the ability to remember breakers and lift itself up automatically. Moreover, it also gets a 10-degree rear axle steering as an option which helps in manoeuvring the car easily in tight spaces.

The Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 is priced at Rs 1.55 crore which makes it Rs 2 lakh cheaper than the base Porsche Taycan and Rs 18 lakh cheaper than the Audi e-Tron GT. It is also Rs 90 lakh more affordable than the EQS 53 AMG. The first 500 EQS 580 customers also get 10-degree rear axle steering as standard, which is an optional extra otherwise.
