Mercedes-Benz has officially introduced the EQA, its entry-level electric SUV, to the Indian market. Priced at ₹66 lakh (introductory price, ex-showroom), with this launch, the brand aims to tap into the growing demand for luxury electric vehicles. The EQA debuted in Europe in 2021 and is one of the best-selling EVs for the brand. Globally, it gets three variants, however, in India it’s available in the 250+ variant only. Here’s an in-depth look at what the Mercedes-Benz EQA brings to the table.

Our review of the new GLA is out too, read it here.

Mercedes-Benz EQA design

The Mercedes-Benz EQA is built on the same platform as the ICE-powered GLA, evident in its dimensions: 4463mm in length, 1834mm in width, and 1624mm in height. The front fascia of the EQA is distinct from the GLA and has the EQ grille as seen on other electric models. The grille features a three-pointed star pattern and a full-width LED bar that merges with the DRLs of the headlamps. The side profile showcases 19-inch aero-optimised AMG wheels, and the rear is adorned with a full-width LED light bar, ensuring the EQA stands out with its modern electric vehicle aesthetics.

Up front, the EQA gets a blacked-out grille similar to other EVs from the brand.

Mercedes-Benz EQA interiors

The EQA shares much of its dashboard layout with the GLA, featuring dual 10.25-inch screens for both the infotainment unit and the instrument cluster. The cabin includes features such as the MBUX system, a head-up display, a 360-degree camera, a panoramic sunroof, and a 710W 12-speaker Burmester sound system. In line with the brand's eco-friendly goals, the EQA's memory seats are made from recycled materials. The vehicle also offers augmented reality for navigation and parking assistance. Unlike the GLA, the EQA distinguishes itself with rose gold accents on the turbine-style air vents and an AMG-style twin-spoke steering wheel with touchpads.

The quality in our review felt top-notch, however, the rear seats have raised floors to accommodate the batteries, which might affect comfort during long journeys. The boot space is slightly reduced to 340 litres due to battery placement.

It also gets an upholstery option made out of recycled materials.

Mercedes-Benz EQA powertrain and performance

The EQA 250+ variant is powered by a 70.5kWh battery, providing a claimed WLTP range of 560km. The electric motor is placed on the front axle and produces 187bhp and 385Nm of torque, allowing the EQA to accelerate from 0-100kmph in 8.6 seconds, with a top speed of 160kmph. That being said, the EQA gets various drive modes, which alter the dynamics of the car. The EQA supports 100kW DC fast charging, enabling the battery to be charged from 10-80 per cent in just 35 minutes. While it may not offer the neck-snapping acceleration typical of some EVs, the EQA provides a balanced performance suitable for everyday driving.

Mercedes-Benz EQA price and rivals

Mercedes-Benz has priced the EQA 250+ from ₹66 lakh in India, positioning it as an affordable luxury EV option. This price point places the EQA against competitors like the Volvo XC40 Recharge, and BMW iX1. The Volvo starts from ₹54.95 lakh, whereas the BMW starts from ₹67 lakh. This price tag should attract a broader audience, boosting the brand's presence in the luxury EV segment.
