Are you thinking of buying a new car and wish the Maruti Suzuki Swift would have been more powerful and more mileage? Your wait may be over soon, as Maruti Suzuki has introduced its popular Swift hatchback with a BS6-compliant 1.2-litre Dualjet petrol engine. The engine to be fitted in this new Swift car will replace the existing 82bhp 1.2-liter K12B petrol engine. Apart from this, the company will soon stop the 74bhp 1.3-liter DDiS diesel engine.

Read on to know what will be special in this new Swift.

Under the hood

The updated version of the Maruti Swift will get a 1.2-litre BS6-compliant Dualjet petrol engine. Maruti has fitted this same engine in the recently facelifted Dzire compact sedan. This engine generates 89bhp (7bhp more than the current K12B petrol engine) and 113Nm torque. Like the Dzire, the Swift's powertrain will come with start-stop technology, which will help improve fuel efficiency.

New look and interior

Along with the introduction of a new engine, the brand will also give a mild visual refresh in the new Swift, in terms of a redesigned grille, new bumpers and redesigned taillights. Talking about the interior, it will come with an updated instrument console and a new 7-inch SmartPlay infotainment system as standard. Also, in terms of safety, Maruti is expected to add electronic stability control and hill hold assist to the AMT variants of the refreshed Swift just like the updated Dzire.

Cost

The 2020 Swift is expected to be launched in the Indian market in the coming months, probably during the festive season. It may be priced slightly higher than the current model, whose ex-showroom price starts at Rs 5.19 lakh for the petrol (as mentioned, the diesel variants will not get a BS6 update, at least not for now). Once on sale, the 2020 Swift will compete with Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, Tata Tiago, and Ford Figo.
