Hyundai Venue gets a BS6 diesel update, to be launched soon

Hyundai has updated the Venue SUV with a BS6-compliant diesel engine, and the sub-compact SUV has started reaching Hyundai dealerships across the country though there is no word of an official launch yet. The BS6 diesel Venue will not have an updated version of the 1.4-litre unit, rather it will borrow a slightly detuned version of the Kia Seltos’ 1.5-litre engine. The Venue will also be available in a new higher trim variant. The Venue already had a BS6 compliant petrol engine.

The new engine will come mated with a 6-speed manual transmission. In the Seltos the engine has a power output of 114bhp and 250Nm and comes with a variable geometry turbocharger (VGT). In the new Venue, it will deliver less power at just 89bhp and 220Nm of torque due to a reported fixed geometry turbo. There is no information yet from Hyundai if it will get an Auto-transmission anytime soon.

The all-new Hyundai Venue gets minimal changes to the inside with updates such as the Alternator Management System (AMS) that is meant to increase battery life along with a tyre pressure monitoring system and an additional 12-volt power outlet which will be only available in the higher-spec models. The number of variants remains the same in the BS6 Venue as before.

Hyundai India with the all-new Venue will compete against key rivals that are already BS6 compliant, like the Tata Nexon, Ford Ecosport Mahindra XUV 300 and the new Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. It will be interesting to see how the Venue BS6 will fair in the compact-SUV segment post these updates.
