The Hyundai IONIQ 5 electric SUV was launched at the Auto Expo 2023 with prices starting at Rs 44.95 lakh

The Hyundai IONIQ 5 is the Korean carmaker’s second EV to be launched in India, after the Kona, and prices for the electric SUV were announced at Auto Expo 2023, starting at 44.95 lakh. The EV is underpinned by the E-GMP platform that also underpins the Kia EV6 which is already on sale in India, and the IONIQ 5 also gets Level 2 ADAS features.

Hyundai IONIQ 5 design

In terms of the design, the IONIQ 5 is a futuristic looking SUV, with parametric pixel headlamps and tail lamps only adding to the futuristic theme. The IONIQ 5 gets 20-inch alloy wheels, and is based on the E-GMP platform developed specifically for BEVs. The IONIQ 5 also gets auto-flush headlamps and comes with three colour options.

Thanks to its clever packaging, the interiors of the IONIQ 5 offer a lot of space, with a sliding glove box and a flat floor contributing to that aspect. Eco-processed leather is the upholstery option on offer, and like any Hyundai, it is loaded to the gills with features and connected car tech. You also get a Bose sound system with 8-speakers along with the 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system that has support for OTA updates. The digital instrument cluster is the same size as the infotainment screen, at 12.3-inches. The IONIQ 6 also gets Level 2 ADAS features, just like the Hyundai Tucson

Hyundai IONIQ 5 powertrain

Powering the IONIQ 5 is an electric motor that produces 215bhp and 350Nm of torque, mated to a 72.6 kWh battery pack. This powertrain is mated to a single-speed transmission and it offers a claimed driving range of 631km as per ARAI.

Hyundai IONIQ 5 pricing

Introductory prices for the IONIQ 5 start at Rs 44.95 lakh, and this pricing is valid for the first 500 buyers. Interestingly, the Hyundai, which is locally-assembled, is a whopping Rs 16 lakh cheaper than its cousin, the Kia EV6, which is brought to India as a CBU.
