Hyundai Motor India has announced that the upcoming seven-seater SUV based on the Creta’s platform, will be called Alcazar. The Alcazar will be made in India for the world and will make its global debut in India later this year. The Alcazar, according to Hyundai, is named after fortresses and palaces it draws inspiration from.

The Hyundai Alcazar is expected to have an identical wheelbase compared to the Creta with a slight increase in the overall length in the rear overhang to accommodate the extra row of seats. The three row layout also opens up possibilities for captain seats in the second row and an option to slide the co-driver’s seat all the way forward to increase space, similar to the Boss mode found on the recently launched Tata Safari. As expected with seven-seater SUVs and MPVs, the Alcazar should be equipped with AC and charging points in the third row. Adding to that, as is Hyundai’s forte, the Alcazar is expected to get variants to suit all customer preferences with various choices in petrol and diesel engines along with manual and automatic transmissions, similar to what the Creta has.

Hyundai has played an important role in the growth of the Indian automotive industry and is currently the largest exporter of cars in India. The announcement of Alcazar adds to those figures. The Alcazar is Hyundai’s latest offering in their commitment towards manufacturing more cars in India for the world — an initiative they call, ‘Made First for India’.

Commenting on the occasion, Mr SS Kim, MD and CEO, HMIL, said, “The year 2021 will add a new chapter in HMIL history, as we gear-up to enter and redefine a new segment. Hyundai Alcazar will supersede the aspirations of new age buyers and redefine existing benchmarks to ensure customer delight. As Hyundai completes 25 years in the country, we will re-emphasize our commitment to Indian customers with the Global Debut of Hyundai Alcazar that is ‘Made in India’ and ‘Made First for India’.”

The Alcazar will make its official debut later this year and will rival the recently launched Tata Safari and the Mahindra XUV500. The arrival of Alcazar may also lead to a seven-seater SUV from Kia as well. Follow our Instagram, Facebook and Twitter handles and watch this space for further updates on the Alcazar and more.
