BYD Seal luxury electric sedan confirmed for India | Auto Expo 2023

BYD has confirmed that the Seal electric sedan will be coming to India, as soon as the end of 2023

BYD is one of the most perplexing electric automakers currently operating in India. The Chinese manufacturer first launched an electric luxury MPV for sale only to commercial fleet operators - the BYD e6. Then, it launched an electric SUV with a sporty focus directly competing with some of the most popular electric vehicles in the country. And now, it wants to launch an attainable electric sedan in India, something only BMW has done with its i4.

Thus, the BYD Seal. Unveiled at the 2023 Auto Expo in Delhi, the striking car has already gained its fair share of admirers who gawk at its subtle proportions and low roofline - even though it is an electric car loaded with batteries. Here’s what we know about it from the internationally sold version.

The BYD Seal is hugely powerful if a bit portly

The BYD Seal has three powertrain options. The first two are single-motor rear-wheel-drive options with 201bhp and 308bhp each. The third is an absolutely ridiculous dual-motor all-wheel-drive option with 523bhp and around 700km of range! This motor helps it go from 0-100kmph in just 3.8 seconds. However, the car is heavy. The BYD Seal weighs around 1900kg with the dual-motor setup.

BYD has confirmed that India will be getting the BYD Seal around Q4 2023, and deliveries will start around the festive season this year. Pricing and other details will be announced during the time of the launch.
