Bookings for Audi’s first ever bespoke EV have started in India. The e-tron is all set to launch in India on July 22, 2021 and it will also come in the Sportback avatar. The two models can be booked at an amount of ₹5 lakh at Audi dealerships and on the company’s official website.
The Audi e-tron gets a grey octagonal grille upfront, flanked by sharply cut matrix LED headlights. The e-tron Sportback has similar styling to the standard e-tron except for the raked rear windscreen and the Hofmeister kink in the back windows. At the rear, both get a full-width light bar that connects the LED taillights.
On the inside, a pair of stacked touchscreens take pride in the middle of the dashboard. The upper 10.1-inch unit is the infotainment screen and lower 8.6-inch display controls the climate control and other functions. The e-tron also gets Audi’s ‘Virtual Cockpit’ digital instrument cluster, progressive steering, adaptive air suspension and four-zone climate control as standard.
The e-tron has a 95kWh Lithium-ion battery which produces 355bhp and 561Nm of torque and reaches an electronically-restricted top speed of 200kmph. It can sprint from 0-100kmph in 6.6 seconds. However, the Boost mode provides even more Schnell and makes possible a 5.7 second 0-100kmph sprint. This is courtesy additional power, which the boost mode provides and totals the output to 402bhp and 664Nm, for a short burst of 8 seconds. The e-tron also gets AWD, courtesy one electric motor on the front axle and one on the rear.
The e-tron promises a range between 369 to 441 kilometres on a full charge according to the WLTP cycle. As far as charging is concerned, the Audi e-tron can either be charged with a 11kW AC charger, or a 150kW DC fast charger. The 11kW AC charger will give the e-tron a full charge in approximately 8.5 hours, whereas the same on the DC fast charger will take 30 minutes.
The Audi e-tron is expected to be priced in the ₹1-1.2 crore region and the Sportback model will demand more cash due to its sportier styling. Upon its arrival, the Audi e-tron will be the third luxury electric SUV, besides the Mercedes-Benz EQC and the Jaguar I-Pace, in Indian market.
Here’s what Balbir Singh Dhillon, head of Audi India had to say about the commencement of bookings of the e-tron - “The future is electric and we are thrilled to open bookings for not one but two electric SUVs – the Audi e-tron and the Audi e-tron Sportback in India. The e-tron is not just one product but a brand in itself and we will launch several new models under this brand. With progress comes evolution; and the Audi e-tron and the Audi e-tron Sportback are the pinnacle of that evolution. These are not just any other cars, these are the beginning of a new era - the era of electric. These are cars from the future, for the future.”
