Volkswagen has just unveiled its brand-spanking new EV, the ID.7, globally to rival the famed Tesla Model 3, the Hyundai Ioniq 6, and the Polestar 2. VW claims that the MEB-based ID.7 is the first EV from the automaker, marketed for the upper mid-size class. Unlike the ID.4, the ID.7 is sleek, charismatic, and much more aerodynamic, thanks to its sedan-like design. The European and Chinese markets will be the first to receive the ID.7, fresh out of the factories, in fall 2023, followed by the North American market in 2024.

The styling of the ID.7 sedan is very much identical to the ID.4 SUV, which is not a bad thing. The sleek LED lights at the front are connected by a lightbar, which is nothing but an ongoing trend of the latest VW cars. From the sides, the ID.7 seems to be a pretty long car. It measures 4,961mm and has a wheelbase of 2,966mm. The sloping roofline could make taller individuals struggle for headroom, but the longer wheelbase will ensure legroom for the majority. The rear fascia sports an LED lightbar, coupled with a dual-tone bumper.

Upon hitting the markets, the ID.7 will be available in two variants: Pro and Pro S. The Standard Pro variant will be powered by an 82-kWh battery pack, which will be good for about 615 km. Also, the battery architecture will support 170-kW DC fast charging. On the flip side, the Pro S will feature a slightly bigger 91-kWh battery pack, which is expected to do a whopping 700km on a single charge. Should you need to juice up the e-tank, the Pro S will support up to 200 kW of DC fast charging. Nevertheless, both the ID.7 variants will drive the rear wheels only and will propel out 286 horsepower and 545Nm of torque.

Interior view of the Volkswagen ID.7

The cabin of the ID.7 is nothing like you have experienced previously from the carmaker. Apart from the steering wheel, th whole dashboard layout is different from the one found inside the ID.4 SUV. There is a newer and bigger 15-inch infotainment display whacked on the centre and a tiny instrument panel on the driver's side. VW is boasting about the augmented reality head-up display, which the ID.7 features. Like most EVs, the interior is kept pretty neat with no overly complex tech. As for the creature comforts, there is a panoramic sunroof, a new Climatronic climate control system, heated and ventilated seating options, along with optional massage functions. As for the pricing, no details have been announced, yet.
