Jeep already gave us a pretty good look at what this new Grand Cherokee would look like a few months back with the reveal of the 4xe variant. But
it is only now that Jeep has shared more details of its brand new Grand Cherokee. The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee follows in the footsteps of the three-row Grand Cherokee L that was unveiled earlier this year and, for the first time ever, the Grand Cherokee also gets a plug-in hybrid in its lineup with a new 4xe variant. This is keeping in line with Jeep’s intentions to offer a zero-emissions product in every category by 2025.
The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee receives a brand-new design compared to its predecessor. It features the typical Jeep seven-slat grille, but the grille itself is more concave than before. The Grand Cherokee also gets sleeker headlamps and tail lights. And, while its predecessor had a slightly more rounded silhouette, the 2022 Grand Cherokee is more squared-off and closely resembles the bigger Grand Cherokee L, even showing traces of the Grand Wagoneer.
Jeep is offering the 2022 Grand Cherokee with a choice of three powertrains internationally. The 4xe hybrid gets two electric motors and a 400V battery pack coupled with a 2-litre turbocharged petrol engine. This plug-in hybrid variant produces a total of 369bhp and 647Nm. In terms of range, the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe gets an estimated all-electric range of 40km, while overall range is estimated to be 708km. Ground clearance stands at a mammoth 287mm while it gets 610mm of water fording ability.
The other two powertrains are regular ICEs — a 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 which produces 288bhp and 352Nm, and a 5.7-litre Hemi V8 which puts out 352bhp and 528Nm. Both these engines are available with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Features and Equipment
The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee boasts of cutting-edge technology such as a drive assist system, an electronic limited-slip differential, three E Selec drive modes, air suspension, a disconnecting sway bar for improved articulation, multiple terrain modes, Amazon Alexa integration, a 19-speaker Mcintosh audio system, brake assist, Active Lane Management, a 360-degree camera, night view camera, and regenerative braking among many others. There are also three 4x4 systems — Quadra-Trac 1, Quadra-Trac 2, and Quadra-Drive 2. The Quadra-Trac 1 system is relatively basic and has a single-speed transfer case and automatically manages power delivery to the wheels. The Quadra-Trac 2 system has a two-speed low transfer case and three modes — 4 All-Time, Neutral, and 4-Low. The Quadra-Drive system adds limited slip differentials to both axles and allows for 100 per cent of the power to be sent to a single rear wheel, if required.
The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee is slated for an international launch between Q4 2021 to early 2022. There is no word whether Jeep will bring the 2022 Grand Cherokee to India, but the bigger Grand Cherokee L could possibly be on the horizon.
For now, Jeep is gearing up for the launch of the Meridian, a 7-seater variant of the Compass. We expect it to enter production by next year. Tell us what you think about the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and follow our social media handles to stay updated!
