We at evo India have been fans of the Hyundai Tucson ever since we ran one extensively as our long-termer, and while the updated Tucson has been selling for quite some time in the global markets, the SUV with the design refresh has finally been launched in India with prices starting at Rs 27.70 lakh. The Jeep Compass and Volkswagen Tiguan-rival is offered with a choice of two engines – a petrol and a diesel mated to an automatic transmission and it also gets ADAS Level 2 capability for the first time.

2022 Hyundai Tucson design

The Hyundai Tucson now wears the Sensuous Sportiness design language from Hyundai, with the Parametric Jewel Grille up front which integrates LED DRLs within it. There are a lot of strong, muscular lines on display when it comes to the side profile of the SUV and the alloy wheels, while the same size as before at 18-inches are now diamond-cut with a new design. The Tucson is also longer, wider and taller than before, which will likely translate to improved cabin space. More on that in our first drive review dropping soon. At the rear of the Tucson you get funky full-width LED tail lamps and the Tucson also gets a rear wiper that has been neatly integrated into the rear spoiler for a cleaner look.

Interiors are a big step over its predecessor

On the inside, the new Hyundai Tucson has been revamped significantly, with the basic layout reminiscent of the Alcazar. You get a dual-tone black and beige colour scheme along with a lot more soft-touch materials as compared to the predecessor’s plastics, and the cabin also gets ambient lighting featuring 64 colour choices. You get a 10.25-inch touchscreen for the infotainment that gets Alexa and Google Home connectivity baked in along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. You also get an 8-speaker Bose sound system, three drive modes, and the AWD-equipped variants also get terrain modes. There’s also a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster on offer which also displays the blind spot view monitor. Both the driver and passenger seats are power adjustable and the Tucson, keeping in line with recent Hyundais packs in a lot of equipment.

Both petrol and diesel engines on offer

The Hyundai Tucson continues to offer the tried and tested petrol and diesel engines. The 2-litre turbo-diesel makes 183bhp of power and 416Nm of torque, and it is more powerful compared to the 2-litre nat-asp petrol that puts out 153bhp and 192Nm. Both are mated to an automatic transmission, the diesel getting an eight-speed unit compared to the petrol’s six speed. The diesel can also be had with all-wheel-drive as an option.
