The facelifted BMW X3 finally finds its way to India and it joins a hotly contested segment

The 2022 BMW X3 has been launched in India, with prices starting from ₹59.9 lakh (ex-showroom) for the standard xDrive30i variant, while the M Sport variant costs ₹65.9 lakh(ex-showroom). There are changes to the exterior styling, interiors and there’s only one drivetrain on offer now. While the changes to the X3 are subtle, the facelift does give the SUV a fresher appeal as it goes against some tough competition!

The design of the BMW X3 largely retains the signature BMW look but has a facelift to go with it. It is more inclined towards a sporty orientation with the redesigned BMW kidney grille, flatter headlights and the new front apron. The front of the car also gets new Matrix LED headlights. Down the side, the look of the car largely remains the same. At the back, the car gets fresh tailights which are further accentuated with the three-dimensionally modelled pincer contour and horizontal turn signals and the black border around it. Both the front and rear bumpers have also been tweaked to freshen up the look of the car.

In the M Sport package, the front bumper features larger air inlets finished in high-gloss black and air curtains. The sportier rear bumper includes a diffuser finished in a dark theme. The M Sport trim includes the new 19-inch alloy wheels. However, the 20-inch alloy wheels are also available to early customers

2022 BMW X3 Engine

Both the variants of the BMW X3 come with a 2-litre in-line 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine which churns out 248bhp at 5200rpm and 350Nm of torque from 1450rpm. The engine drives all four wheels via a 8-speed automatic gearbox. It also comes with auto start-stop, brake-energy regeneration, electronic power steering, 50:50 weight distribution, and driving modes such as Comfort, Eco Pro, Sport and Sport+.

The X3 comes equipped with an updated touchscreen infotainment system, with gesture control and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with a high-resolution 12.3-inch instrument cluster behind the steering wheel. The car also features a 464W Harman Kardon surround sound system with 16 speakers individually adjustable equalising. It also includes auto hold, side-impact protection, electronic vehicle immobiliser and crash sensor, ISOFIX child seat mounting and an integrated emergency spare wheel under the load floor.

This means the X3 is competing against the likes of Mercedes-Benz GLC, Audi Q5 and also the Volvo XC60


Pricing and Rivals

The prices for the BMW standard xDrive30i variant starts from ₹59.9 lakh (ex-showroom) while the M Sport variant costs ₹65.9 lakh (ex-showroom).
