BMW X7 Pick-up concept showcased at BMW Motorrad Days

BMWs have always known to be ‘Designed for driving pleasure’ and the same philosophy reflects in its M-powered cars and SUVs. But a pick-up? Hell no! In a first from BMW, a bunch of trainees along with the concept vehicle construction and model technology division at the Munich plant have come up with this crazy pick-up based on the flagship X7 SUV. And yeah, the engineers have done a lot more than tearing off the back of the X7.

To start with, the pickup is based on the X7 xDrive40i variant and the chop-job has converted this 7-seater to a 5-seater pickup. The length has also gone up by 10cm, which extends up to 600mm with the loading bay gate open. The engineers have used carbonfibre-reinforced plastics when it comes to the roof components, rear doors and the rear lid, which has helped the car to shed 200kg over the X7. The loading bay of the pickup uses handcrafted teakwood cladding, something that is seen on Rolls-Royce models. The show car gets an exclusive metallic blue finish that is part of the BMW Individual palette.

What would a sane man do with a pick-up of that proportions? Load a motorcycle onto the bed. And that’s what the BMW techies did! To demonstrate the loading capacity of the concept, the staff loaded the bay with a F 850 GS! The pick-up will remain as a concept for now. But if you are American and love the idea of a pick-up, why not ask the chaps at BMW to make one for you? If Mercedes-Benz can do an X-Class, why shouldn’t BMW follow? The folks at Stuttgart, are you listening?
