After launching the updated X1 last year, BMW has launched a new variant, the X1 20i Tech Edition. It is priced at Rs 43 lakh (ex-showroom) and costs Rs 1.7 lakh more than the X1 20i xLine and the same as the X1 20d xLine, making it the range-topping petrol variant of the model. As the name suggests, the BMW X1 20i Tech Edition gets a bunch of extra features on the inside and bigger 18-inch alloys to differentiate it from the rest of the range.

To begin with, the infotainment system now comprises a bigger 10.25-inch touchscreen replacing the 8.8-inch system on the other variants. The system is also now compatible with wireless Apple CarPlay and also gets a wireless smartphone charger. Along with the infotainment system, the X1 20i Tech Edition also gets an updated 205W Hi-Fi sound system. In terms of driver-aids, the SUV gets a head-up display.

Externally, the SUV remains unchanged barring new 18-inch rims with a Y-spoke design. The Tech Edition will only be available in two colour options - Alpine White and Phytonic Blue (Metallic) both with Sensatec Oyster Black upholstery.

In all other aspects, the X1 Tech Edition is identical to the other petrol-powered X1s, meaning it gets the same two-litre, twin-scroll turbo-petrol engine that puts out 189bhp at 5000-6000rpm and 280Nm at 1350-4600rpm. The engine is mated to a seven-speed DSG gearbox. All the chassis elements remain unchanged barring the bigger wheels. Even the interiors are carried over as is.

Commenting on the launch of the BMW X1 20i Tech Edition, Vikram Pawah, president, BMW Group said, “BMW India holds the dominant position in the premium compact sports activity vehicle (SAV) segment. With the BMW X1 20i Tech Edition, we are once again strengthening the ‘Power of Choice’ for customers looking to enter this segment. With new added features, modern technology and powerful performance, this exclusive limited-edition combines the best of both worlds. It meets the varied mobility needs and fits in perfectly with the attitude and lifestyle of ambitious future leaders who are redefining success - personally and professionally.”

Bookings for the X1 20i Tech Edition are now open and the SUV will be available exclusively on the BMW India shop website in limited numbers. The BMW X1 20i Tech Edition will be rivalled by the likes of the Mini Countryman, the Mercedes-Benz GLA and the Volvo XC40.
