The BMW Motorrad R 1250 R is an oddity in that it is one of the most overlooked touring-focused roadster motorcycles ever produced. In a world full of Harley Davidsons, Indians and Hondas, the R 1250 R goes its own way with BMW’s famous boxer twin engine and laid back but deeply muscular characteristics. For 2022, the bike has been updated with a host of new features and abilities. Let’s take a look at what’s new.

BMW R 1250 R Roadster is a hefty and muscuar looking motorcycle

The R 1250 R was always a hefty, muscular motorcycle, meant to be as menacing as possible in any setting. That character has remained, now modernised with full-LED headlights and taillights as well as smart turning lights. The daytime running lights also use BMW’s iconic design. The motorcycle comes in three variants based on colourways. The base variant comes in a sporty grey finish. The two other finishes are the Sport model, which has a deep blue metallic colourway and the all-stealth triple black variant.

BMW R 1250 R Roadster gets TFT colour display with real-time information about your riding style

The highlight of any BMW motorcycle is its torquey boxer engine, and in the R 1250 R, a 1254cc boxer twin pulls heavy duty, producing 134bhp and 143Nm of torque. BMW ShiftCam technology helps in making this enormous power usable across the entire powerband. This is allied to new technological upgrades, including BMW Motorrad ABS Pro as standard, Dynamic Brake Control and three riding modes with ECO mode added for efficient cruising and touring. The TFT colour display now also gets real-time information about your riding style.

BMW R 1250 R Roadster also gets a seat heating option

As optional extras, BMW is also offering a seat heating and pillion heating system to further bolster the touring bike characteristics of the bike. This includes heated grips as well. There are also new power sockets and USB connection ports to help in touring.

The BMW R 1250 R competes with touring focused models like the, Harley Davidson Sportster. India launch dates have not been confirmed yet, but you can expect a launch sometime next year.
