TVS has launched the BS6-iteration of their supersport, the Apache RR 310 at Rs 2.4 lakh. It gets a host of important updates such as ride-by-wire, four riding modes and a sophisticated TFT display.

The updates

The most vital technological upgrade on the RR 310 is the ride-by-wire throttle with the addition of four riding modes that adjust power output and ABS responsiveness. The switchgear too gets new control cubes for easy access to the new Bluetooth (Smart Xonnect) enabled 5-inch TFT screen's various functions, widgets and the four riding modes - Sport, Track, Urban and Rain.

In Sport Mode the engine produces max power and torque (33.5bhp and 27.3Nm) optimising engine braking and ABS responsiveness. The TFT screen or as they call ‘Race Computer’ displays relevant touring data including navigation, distance, and estimated time of arrival.

The Track Mode puts the motor in its maximum state of tune and optimises ABS intervention for better track performance. The TFT screen only displays vital race telemetry with Smart Xonnect giving the rider a detailed post-race analysis directly on the smartphone.

Switching to Urban mode reduces the power output to 25.4bhp and the torque to 25Nm, and is mapped for linear acceleration. The multi-information TFT race computer displays essential information, navigation, and cellular notifications. The ABS is optimised for a quick response with minimal lever pulsation on hard braking.

The Rain mode provides the same state of tune as Urban mode (25.4bhp and 25Nm). However, the ABS is setup to deliver the maximum response with a strong lever pulsation. The RR 310 has a top speed of 160kmph in sport and track mode, while the Urban and Rain modes limit the top speed to 125kmph.

The BS6-complaint motor

The 312cc single cylinder, liquid cooled motor, mated to a slipper clutch-equipped 6-speed gearbox, still produces 33.5bhp at 9700rpm and 27.3Nm at 7700rpm. The BS6 compliance, however, has upped the RR 310’s kerb weight by close to 4.5kg (from 169.5 to 174kg). The RR 310 also gets Race Tuned-fuel injection (RT-Fi) which was recently introduced in the 2020 Apache RTR 4V BS6 iterations.

Gone is the bland looking, functional instrument cluster, making way for a more advanced Bluetooth (Smart Xonnect) enabled 5-inch TFT screen that changes display patterns to suit the riding modes. The Smart Xonnect system can be paired with an Android or iOS smartphone, and displays in-depth post-ride analysis and race telemetry including gear shifting points, G-force, best lap time.

The RR 310 also features ‘Glide Through Technology+’ which is mapped into the Urban and Rain modes which lets you leave the throttle while the bike cruises on its own. The Apache RR 310 does not get any cosmetic upgrades, but will be available in a Racing Red and a new ‘Titanium Black’ dual tone paint scheme. While the previous model featured Michelin Pilot Street tyres, the 2020 model comes shod with Michelin Road 5 tyres
