The Bentley Bentayga is one of the most luxurious SUVs in the world, right up there with rivals like the Mercedes-Maybach GLS and the Rolls Royce Cullinan. It has also straddled the line between performance and luxury, with it being the fastest SUV in the world till the Lamborghini Urus and Aston Martin DBX took away that crown. Now, Bentley is going all out on the luxury part. The Bentley Bentayga Extended Wheelbase (EWB) is a stretched variant of the Bentayga and includes a number of enhancements, including new seat options and design choices. Let’s take a look at what’s new on this uber luxury SUV.

The rear door is where the elongation has taken place

First off, it’s hard to not notice the massive 180mm increase in wheelbase that the Bentayga EWB has been given. Almost all of this increase in length is in the rear doors, which are now longer and get a powered closing mechanism. There is a new “Vertical Vane” front grille inspired by the Flying Spur which adorns the front fascia, and the sunroof is now repositioned rearward to account for the increase in length. The new 22-inch 10-spoke polished wheel design is ridiculously shiny, quite appropriate for this SUV with its bashful design. Bentley says the Bentayga EWB is longer than any of its rivals by over 40mm, and lower than any other by over 100mm, which are good numbers proportion-wise.

The airline style seats are new

The interior is the point of the Bentley Bentayga EWB. There are a host of changes that Bentley has made to turn the previously lacquer cabin into a celebration of true opulence. Bentley has made a big emphasis on wellness, and in that vein, is offering three seat configurations. The standard option is a five-seater that Bentley calls ‘4+1’, which should tell you all about that middle rear seat. In addition, there are 4 and a different 5 seat configuration with fold-down backrests. Curiously, the seven-seat option is NOT available on the long-wheelbase Bentayga. There is a new airline seat specification, which has a number of highly luxurious options, such as automatic seat climate sensors, automatic posture adjustment and heated door and centre armrests. Seems like the place to be.

The centre console has been redesigned for ergonomics

The seats are stitched in quilted leather with a new design, and a new feature is the new Diamond Illumination which is not unline Rolls Royce’s starlight headliner, with individual LED modules lighting up the Bentayga’s door panels. Bentley has even redesigned the centre console on both the front and rear to be more ergonomically better.

Bentley Bentayga EWB engine and performance

The Bentayga EWB gets Bentley's trustworthy V8

The Bentayge EWB gets the tried and tested 4-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine that produces 542bhp and 770Nm of torque. It reaches a top speed of 290kmph and 100kmph in 4.6 seconds. There is no news yet as to whether the EWB will get the W12 engine option. The suspension enhancements are based on the Bentley Dynamic Ride which Bentley says have made the ride smoother and quieter by up to 27 per cent as compared to its rivals. In addition to the suspension enhancements, the Bentayga EWB also gets Electronic All Wheel Steering from the Flying Spur, which would help reduce the turning circle of this massive SUV.
