German automaker Audi and Chinese IT and Communications Corporation Huawei have decided to partner in the field of intelligent connected vehicles. Audi, which is already known to equip its cars with high-tech wizardry, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Huawei in Berlin on Tuesday, July 10 before advancing together into the future of automated driving and digitalized world.
By signing this agreement Audi and Huawei have become the first international collaboration to deploy advanced mobile communication system of ‘LTE-V’ in the huge metropolitan city of Wuxi in eastern China. The platform allows motorists to access real-time traffic information via connections to the traffic light systems and video monitoring at intersections. This communication system can be accessed only using the specially tailored connected cars.
These growing futuristic domains demand immense amounts of R&D as intelligent vehicles have to establish a connection with the surrounding environment, something only a stable and high-quality data connection can allow. Hence, to facilitate this advancement the two companies have agreed to additionally train their technological experts in the respective areas.
Huawei is at the helm of smartphone manufacturing in Asia and is currently topping the sales charts in India. But the corporation also specializes in integrated solutions across key domains like telecom networks, IT, and cloud services and wishes to share their know-how with the German carmaker which is attempting to enter the future of automated driving and intelligent vehicles.
“We are intensifying our joint research with Huawei in the area of intelligent connected vehicles,” explained Saad Metz, Executive Vice President of Audi China, adding: “Our aim is to improve safety and optimize traffic flows in order to create intelligent cities. The concepts will initially be concentrated on the Chinese market.” The project is ready to enter the next phase at “World Internet of Things Exposition” in Wuxi in September 2018, for a broader range of application.
