One of the most interesting cars of the year, the MG Hector has created a lot of excitement with its unique offerings. The ‘Internet car’ was driven by ed recently and the amount of connectivity features that are on offer in the MG Hector is quite impressive. The Hyundai Creta, Tata Harrier and Jeep Compass have all strengths of their own and have been quite well received in our market. The MG Hector is offered with a choice of three powertrain options. There’s a 1.5-litre turbo petrol, a 2.0-litre FCA sourced diesel and the same 1.5-litre turbo petrol mated to a 48V mild-hybrid system. How does the car fare against its rivals in terms of pricing?

The MG Hector undercuts the Jeep Compass in terms of price. The Compass petrol is dearer by Rs 3.42 lakh than the Hector petrol. The Hyundai Creta remains the most affordable car in this segment as its 1.6-litre base petrol manual variant starts at Rs 9.99 lakh. Same goes for the diesel variants as well as the 1.4-litre base diesel manual variant of the Creta remains the most affordable of the lot. However, the punchier 1.6-litre diesel manual variant of the Creta (13.59 lakh) is pricier than the base variant of the Hector diesel (Rs 13.18 lakh). The Harrier which is only offered with a 2.0-litre diesel engine paired to a manual gearbox undercuts the similarly specced Hector by a close margin.

In terms of petrol powertrains, the Hector sits between the Creta and the Compass while its diesel counterpart sits between the Harrier and the Compass. This applies only for the starting prices of each powertrain. Prices may vary according to the trims.
