Tata Nexon EV - Long Term Report - November 2024

As one electric car leaves the fleet, another one joins. And this time, it's India’s best-selling one.

Tata Nexon EV - Long Term Report - November 2024
X

There's many reasons why the Nexon EV is India’s best-seller, but most important is the price to package ratio. The Nexon EV isn’t cheap, no doubt about that, but by electric car standards it does deliver a solid package with range, performance and plenty of kit. What we’ve got here is the Nexon EV with the 40kWh battery — which used to be the biggest battery on offer, but the arrival of the 45kWh has pushed it to the middle of the range. Nevertheless, 280-300km of charge on a good day should suffice.

First impressions? It looks and feels nice — Tata Motors has done a lot of work in making their cars seem desirable from both the inside and out. Despite being a compact car, it can hold its own in terms of visual impact in front of larger more expensive cars, especially when the DRL lightbar is on. The insides have plenty of kit too, with big digital displays. It certainly is likeable. Living with the Nexon EV does magnify some issues — like the missing cupholders, or the lack of storage spaces in the dash.

The EV drivetrain works as you would expect it to — silent and quick. The ride quality on the Nexon EV feels a lot firmer than I remember it, but Nirmeet (our videographer) is quick to remind me that it is much more settled than the older Nexon EV. He would know, he owns one of those. The only places I’ve really driven the Nexon EV so far is around town — it is a happy puppy here, darting between traffic and making the most of its compact footprint. I’m not really pushing my limits for range anxiety just yet. In time, in time. We’re going to be spending three months with the Nexon EV, so if you have questions about it, don’t hesitate to write in to us. And stay clued in to our social media for more updates on what it is like living with India's best-selling EV!
