Volkswagen has taken the wraps off the ID. AERO concept, the brand’s first fully-electric sedan that will soon become the flagship of its all-electric range of cars when it goes on sale in 2023. To be underpinned by the brand’s MEB platform this flagship ID car, will be positioned above the Volkswagen ID.3, ID.4, ID.5, and the exclusive to the Chinese markets ID.6.

Volkswagen has confirmed that the ID. AERO will be powered by a 77kWh battery that promises over 620km of range on the WLTP cycle and if the other models are to go by we can also expect multiple variants of the ID. AERO with different battery size options and motor configurations.

One look at it and the ID. AERO concept which is in near-production guise looks very familiar when compared to its sibling ID cars. To maximise aerodynamic efficiency, which will help it achieve a longer range, Volkswagen has given it a fastback design.

The ID. AERO concept rides on 22-inch alloys

Up front, just like all new VW’s, the ID. AERO concept gets Volkswagen’s new roundel that is flanked by a thin LED strip which connects both the headlights. Down below there is a trio of LED lights on both sides which are housed in C-shaped and fairly aggressive bumper elements.

Moving on to the sides, the ID. AERO gets a very prominent shoulder line that looks really cool, flushed door handles and 22-inch that may or may not make it to production. At the back, the design is pretty fuss free. There are no fake vents here, just a full-width tail light assembly with a funky looking honeycomb pattern.

While Volkswagen hasn’t given away any details of the interior yet, we expect the ID. AERO to carry a heavy digital real estate inside, with all the modern tech and features that you expect from an electric car like OTA-updates, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless charging, many USB Type-C ports, ventilated seats and a banging sound system

Upon its arrival, next year, the Volkswagen ID. Concept will rival the likes of the Tesla Model S, the Mercedes-Benz EQE, the upcoming Polestar 5 and the BMW i4 which has just made its way to Indian shores.
