The Maruti Suzuki Dzire, a compact sedan based on the Swift hatchback, is immensely popular thanks to the space on offer, features and reliability. For 2020, the Dzire gets a slightly redesigned front-end, added features and a 1.2-litre K-Series petrol engine with more power and better fuel economy. Prices start at Rs 5.89 lakh for the base LXI variant.

Updates

First off, on the front end is a new one-piece grille that gives the Dzire a slightly more cohesive look. There’s some added chrome near the fog lamps and new diamond cut alloys, and that’s about it. The changes to the inside are even fewer, new wood finish and dual tone seats. In terms of features, Maruti Suzuki has added a few including — cruise control, a new 7-inch Smartplay Studio touchscreen infotainment screen, a 4.2-inch coloured multi information display in the instrument cluster and auto start/stop function.

Mechanicals

Powering the Dzire is a new BS6-compliant 1.2-litre K-Series motor with variable valve timing. It makes 88bhp and the company claims a fuel economy of 23.26kmpl with the manual transmission or 24.12kmpl if you get the AGS variant. The Dzire also gets bigger brakes on the front and rear for better stopping power and a longer life for the brakes. In terms of safety, the Dzire gets ABS, EBD, dual airbags and ISOFIX seat mounts as standard. AGS variants also get ESC and hill hold assist.

Prices

The base LXI variant starts at Rs 5.89 lakh, the VXI variant comes in at Rs 6.79 lakh, ZXI starts at Rs 7.48 lakh while the top-end ZXI+ variant starts at Rs 8.28 lakh (All prices are ex-showroom, Delhi). Additionally, the AGS variants on offer on all variants except the LXI, will set you back an additional Rs 52,500 over the ex-showroom price. The prices have increased by Rs 6,000 to Rs 22,000 over the outgoing BS4-compliant version, depending on the variant.

The Dzire competes with other compact sedans like the Honda Amaze, Hyundai Aura, Volkswagen Ameo and the Ford Aspire. Without a diesel option, the Dzire may face some trouble however, we are seeing the market shift toward buying more petrol cars.
