Toyota has launched the facelifted Camry in India at a price of Rs 41.70 lakh (ex-showroom). The facelift brings with it a few styling tweaks and new features on the inside that include an upgraded infotainment system. Let's see what's new and what's not-so-new in the facelifted Camry.
The styling changes that Toyota has made to the facelifted Camry hybrid aren't noticeable at first glance. Up front there's a sleeker grille at the centre of which proudly sits the Toyota badge with blue accents to hint at the vehicle's hybrid credentials. Down below there's a new revised bumper with larger air intakes and silver accents that just add to its in-your-face look. Moving on to the side, the Camry now rides on new dual-tone 18-inch alloy wheels. The only change to the Camry's rear are the smoked inserts in its tail lights.
Just like the outside, the changes to the Camry facelift's interior are minor. No major styling changes, but revision and addition to the hardware. At the centre of the dashboard sits a larger 9-inch infotainment touchscreen that now supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a feature that the previous Camry didn't have. The air conditioning vents are repositioned below the infotainment screen and there's new trim finish for the dashboard and centre console.
The Camry facelift gets a wireless charging pad, 10-way adjustable front seats that are also heated and cooled, a 7-inch instrument cluster screen that is flanked by a couple of old-school gauges and a heads-up display. More features include a three-zone climate control, a sunroof, nine-speaker JBL surround sound system and powered sunshades for the rear passengers. On the safety front the Camry gets nine airbags, adaptive cruise control, lane assist and frontal collision warning system.
One of the things that Toyota hasn't fettled with, is what's under the hood of the Toyota Camry facelift. It continues to be propelled by the 2.5-litre naturally aspirated engine that gets hybrid assistance from a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor. Combined, the two produce 214bhp and a 221Nm torque figure. This unit is paired to a CVT and it gives you the choice to drive the Camry hybrid in pure EV or pure ICE mode (along with the hybrid mode). Toyota claims the Camry hybrid can deliver a very commendable fuel efficiency of 23.27kmpl.
The Camry facelift demands a price of Rs 41.70 lakh (ex-showroom). That is Rs 50,000 more than its predecessor and that's a minimal price gain to pay for the styling tweaks and changes inside. With Honda no longer selling the Accord hybrid in the Indian market, the Camry hybrid's sole rival is the Skoda Superb that’s priced between Rs 31.99 to 35.85 lakh.
