Porsche has finally launched its first electric car in India, the Taycan, which has been a long time coming. The Porsche Taycan has been launched alongside the Macan facelift, which we’ve already talked about, so let’s focus on the fully-electric Taycan. Porsche has launched the entire Taycan lineup in India, which also includes the Taycan Cross Turismo, with prices starting from Rs 1.5 crore for the base Taycan.

Porsche Taycan Powertrain, Performance, and Range

It is important to note that the Porsche Taycan is built on the same J1 platform as the Audi e-tron GT, and thus shares the battery and the electric motors. The Porsche Taycan is powered by two electric motors placed on each axle and in two configurations — a 79.2kWh battery and a 93.4kWh battery with power outputs varying across variants. The base Taycan puts out 321bhp and 345Nm of torque. However, there is a hidden party trick — the Overboost mode which increases the power output to 402bhp, and it gets a maximum range of 421km on the WLTP cycle. Apart from the entry-level Taycan which is rear-wheel drive, the rest of the lineup features all-wheel drive.

The Taycan 4S produces 429bhp and 640Nm of torque. With Overboost, the power figure goes up to 522bhp, and we’re only on the second variant right now! The Taycan 4S gets a maximum range of 408km on the WLTP cycle, which is slightly lesser than the base Taycan given but understandable given that the 4S enjoys better performance, and reaches triple digits in 4 seconds.

Similarly, the Taycan 4S Cross Turismo produces 482bhp and 650Nm of torque, which again goes up to 563bhp with Overboost.

Apart from the base Taycan, the rest of the lineup receives all-wheel drive

The Taycan Turbo and the Taycan Cross Turismo get a 93.4kWh battery pack which is slightly larger than the one on the base Taycan and the Taycan 4S. The Taycan and the Cross Turismo are good for 616bhp and 850Nm of torque, and once again you enjoy the benefit of Overboost which increases the power output to a massive 670bhp! The Taycan Turbo also benefits from a better range of 452km on the WLTP cycle.

Coming to the most powerful variant of the Taycan — the Taycan Turbo S, which also receives the larger 93.4kWh battery pack. It produces the same amount of the power as the Taycan Turbo, but the Overboost increases total power output to 750bhp while torque output stands at a mammoth 1050Nm! The Taycan Turbo S takes just 2.8 seconds to complete a 0-100kmph run, and like the Taycan Turbo, it reaches a top speed of 260kmph. However, the travel range takes a slight hit at 416km on the WLTP cycle.

Porsche Taycan Charging

The Porsche Taycan receives an onboard 22kW fast charger

The Porsche Taycan can be charged with a 11kW AC charger which takes nine hours for a full charge, while a 22kW onboard charger is available as an option which takes 4.5 hours for the same.

Porsche Taycan Features and Equipment

The Taycan gets driver assist systems such as rear collision alert, and the Porsche InnoDrive suite which includes Active Lane Keep Assist, Swerve Assist, Park Assist, and Intersection Assist. You also get a 16.8-inch curved instrument display, head-up display, a 10.9-inch infotainment display, Advanced Climate Control, Porsche Active Aerodynamics, Porsche Vehicle Tracking, an 8.4-inch touch panel in the centre console, advanced climate control and Porsche Active Suspension Management among many others.

The Taycan Turbo additionally receives adaptive air suspension, while the Turbo S receives 18-step adjustable seats.

Porsche Taycan Prices and Rivals

Porsche has only disclosed prices for the entry-level Taycan

Porsche has not disclosed prices for the Taycan lineup completely, and has only announced prices for the entry-level Taycan which starts at Rs 1.5 crore, which makes it more affordable than its closest rivals, the Audi e-tron GT and the RS e-tron GT. Which one would you pick among the Porsche Taycan and the Audi e-tron GT? Let us know in the comments!
