The new Porsche Macan has been launched in India at Rs 69.9 lakh (ex-showroom). The more powerful Macan S too has been introduced in India for the first time at Rs 85.03 lakh. Its closest rivals include Jaguar F-Pace and Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 which are priced at Rs 64.64 lakh and Rs 78.03 lakh.

New look

There are some significant styling upgrades on the new Macan. It sports all-new LED headlights integrated with Porsche’s signature four-point DRLs. It also receives LED bling in the form of a light-bar that connects the taillights, just like in the new 911. The front bumper has been redesigned too.

The powertrains

Powering the facelifted Macan SUV is a 2-litre, four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that puts out 248bhp of power and 370Nm of torque. This engine is updated with enhanced combustion chamber geometry. Those looking for even more Thrill of Driving can opt for the more powerful Macan S. It is powered by a new 3-litre turbocharged V6 petrol engine putting out 349bhp and 480Nm of torque. Both engines are mated to a 7-speed dual clutch transmission (PDK) and an all-wheel-drive system. These figures translate well on the performance front, allowing the Macan S to hit 100kmph in 5.3sec, making it faster than the standard Macan by 1.4sec.

Optional air suspension on the Macan S

There is also an optional air suspension which features new hydraulics and rolling pistons. The Macan S also gets optional air suspension with leveling system and height management. Along with the updates to the suspension, the anti-roll bars have been strengthened too. The Macan S also gets beefed up brakes with 6-piston aluminium monobloc fixed calipers with internally vented 360mm brake discs at the front. Porsche also allows users to choose the GT sports steering wheel equipped with a Sport Response button a la the 911.

New touchscreen

The Macan receives a major update in form of the Porsche Communication Management system with a 10.9-inch (previously 7.2-inch) full-HD touchscreen infotainment system as well. There are four new paint schemes on offer too: Mamba Green Metallic, Dolomite Silver Metallic, Miami Blue and Crayon.

In comparison to the Jaguar F-Pace and the Mercedes AMG GLC 43, the Macan and the Macan S are still a tad bit expensive but then they sport the much revered Porsche bag. We haven’t driven the updated Macan yet but it is one of the most dynamic SUVs around. Porsche has confirmed that the launch of Cayenne Coupe and Taycan is already on the cards for India.
